Our member spotlight for the month of June is Assistant Chief Steve Schaffer. Steve has served many roles at our fire department and has risen through the ranks to Assistant Chief.
He started volunteering in 1996 as a junior firefighter at Tri-Clover Fire Department. “My uncle was the Fire Chief at the time and encouraged me to join and make a difference in the community.” Speaking of community, Steve says that, “doing my part in our close knit community is personally important to me. But by far, the best part of volunteering is the people. Volunteering with a group of individuals with a genuine care for the well-being of our community is as good as it gets.”
When Steve isn’t spending time at the fire department, he can be found spending time with family, riding his ATV and hiking outdoors, and coaching youth sports. For someone considering joining their local fire department Steve says, “we need your help. Unfortunately, volunteerism is dwindling in our increasingly fast-paced world. The people you meet and personal gratification associated with making a difference in this community is an experience second to none.”
Join Assistant Chief Schaffer and other members of your community by volunteering with our fire department! There is always work to be done by folks who have a wide range of skills and interest. We are always accepting applications for firefighters and supporting members. Contact us on Facebook, at membership@weisenbergfire.com, or stop by on a Monday night at 6:30pm to learn about this rewarding experience.
