FF/EMR Whelden at a recent training event

Our member spotlight for the month of May is Firefighter John Whelden. John joined the fire department when it formed several years ago. He says that, “I decided that this was my opportunity to get involved and serve our community. I soon learned what was expected and how to be of use on a fire call. These experiences exceeded my expectations and have been very personally rewarding.” John serves as a volunteer to serve his community and provide a much needed service. “We tend to meet a lot of people who are having a really bad day. I receive real satisfaction by having the skills and the opportunity to help these folks.”

John retired from Mack Truck in 2020. He and his wife Arlene enjoy working on their home and searching for unique antiques. John enjoys sailing on Lake Nockamixon and also volunteers at the Golden Age Air Museum, building and restoring airplanes.

John says, “we always need and have opportunities for more firefighters and supporters. Please get involved and you will find it rewarding and a way to make friendships and meet many people in our great community. You will also learn skills and learn about your own abilities.” To join John and volunteer at our fire department, contact us today! You can message us on Facebook, email membership@weisenbergfire.com, or stop by on a Monday night at 6:30pm.
