As you probably heard, many hospitals, first responders and other essential operations are experiencing a shortage of protective equipment and disinfecting supplies. Here at the Weisenberg Volunteer Fire Department we are experiencing the same issues. We were fortunate to have some stock of these important supplies prior to the COVID-19 Pandemic and were able to secure some additional items a few weeks ago thanks to companies like 8 Oaks Distillery, Lowes – Hamburg & Weis Markets -Fogelsville. Unfortunately we are finding it very difficult to get certain supplies right now.
Due to the nature of our work, “social distancing” is just not an option. In order to ensure the safety of our volunteers, their families and the community our use of things like N95 masks, medical gloves & cleaning supplies has dramatically increased.
Things that you can do to help us:
1.) Reusable Face Masks: Many people that know how to sew are making face masks for hospital staff and first responders. These are washable and reusable. Sewing patterns and information can be found online. We have approx. 34 volunteer firefighters on our team. We also have approx. 10 ems responders from Cetronia Ambulance Corps that operate out of our station.
2.) N95 Face Masks: Do you have extras or have access to some?
3.) Sanitizing Wipes: We are wiping down our apparatus and equipment after each call. The easiest way to do this is with sanitizing wipes but they are completely unavailable. Do you have extras or have access to some?
4.) Medical Gloves: We are using gloves on every call these days which is rapidly eating away at our supply. Do you have extras or have access to some?
If you can help, please reach out to Deputy Chief Brian Carl at the Township office 610-285-6660.
Thank you!
