On 10/20/2017 the Weisenberg Volunteer Fire Department participated in Weisenberg Elementary’s Fire Safety Day. The day consisted of various topics for students in kindergarten through 3rd grade. Firefighter Randy Zack led presentations for the students while various firefighters and supporters pitched in to help.
In the morning, 1st and 2nd grade students listened to a presentation on various fire safety topics such as smoke detectors, calling 911, stop drop and roll (demonstrated by FF Broadhurst), and not to be afraid of firefighters in their gear (demonstrated by FF Goodolf and FF Oswald). After the assembly, students got to learn about Engine 5111 and Truck 5131 and walk through the apparatus.
In the afternoon, Chief Carl and FF Goodolf gave a brief presentation to the kindergarten class. Later, 3rd grade students traveled to the station for a presentation. Their teachers donned firefighter gear to show the students that anyone can be a firefighter. After the presentation, students got to ask the Chief questions about our fire department and then toured our apparatus and a Cetronia Ambulance.
Weisenberg Volunteer Fire Department would like to thank the students and teachers at Weisenberg Elementary for allowing us to help educate the community on fire safety. We are also appreciative of our officers, firefighters, and supporters for helping make this a fun and successful day.
