WVFD awarded $20,330 and $12,454.67 with two new grants thanks to our internal grant guru Dave Freeman. Recently we learned that for the 3rd year in a row we would be receiving money from the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant. Past awards were for a thermal imaging camera and airpacks and now this year’s $20,330 will go towards purchasing much needed hose nozzles and 2 Blitzfire attack monitors. When our department first started running calls we helped save start up costs by purchasing or having donated many used pieces of equipment. With some items being over 15 years old we knew it would need to be replaced sooner rather than later. This grant will offset 95% of the costs needed to replace a lot of very old or non-existent items. In addition we learned that we were also successful in the Pennsylvania State Fire Commissioners Office VFCAS grant. This $12,454.67 will be used for maintenance on 3 trucks, more hose, and the HVAC unit for our 2nd floor area. Previously in 2012 we were also fortunate to receive grants from the Air Products and Chemicals Foundation, Wells Fargo Bank, New Tripoli Bank, Bank of America, and the Firemans Heritage Fund. A huge thanks and great job to Dave for all his hard work on these grants.
